Prostate cancer is an important medical issue facing many of America’s military veterans. Janssen Biotech, Inc. has teamed up with prostate cancer survivor, veteran’s advocate and NASCAR® legend Richard Petty to launch Show Your Stripes for Prostate Cancer Awareness. This educational initiative focuses on the importance of open dialogue about advanced prostate cancer among veterans, their families, friends and healthcare providers.
Petty knows firsthand the importance of straight talk about prostate cancer and the role of family and friends in the brave battle against the disease.
WHY MILITARY VETERANS?
America’s veterans have served our country with strength, perseverance and unity. But when it comes to creating awareness and providing support for patients with prostate cancer, they are an often overlooked, at-risk group.
- Two-thirds of U.S. veterans are over the age of 65 or approaching it.
- Most cases of prostate cancer – nearly two-thirds of them – occur in men over 65 years of age.
- Some research suggests that exposure to Agent Orange may be an additional risk factor for prostate cancer among Vietnam War veterans.
Show your support for military veterans and pledge a stripe. For every person who pledges a stripe, Janssen Biotech, Inc. will donate $1 for up to a total donation of $5,000 each to Us TOO, Men's Health Network or Vietnam Veterans of America.
